KBC 16: Can You Answer This ₹25 Lakh Mahabharata Question That Stumped Bengaluru Contestant Utkarsh?

2 min read

Amitabh Bachchan returns to host another season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), now in its 16th edition. The first episode aired on Monday, featuring Utkarsh Baxi from Bengaluru, who took the ‘hot seat’ after the ‘Fastest Fingers First’ round. Although Utkarsh performed well, he stumbled on a question related to the Mahabharata that could have earned him ₹25 lakh.

The Mahabharata Question

The question that Utkarsh couldn’t answer correctly was: According to the Mahabharata, which God gifted a garland to Amba, saying whoever wears it will be the person to kill Bhishma? The options were: Lord Shiva, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Vayu.

Uncertain about the answer, Utkarsh used the ‘Video Call a Friend’ lifeline, and his friend suggested Lord Shiva. Utkarsh then used the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, which allows two chances to answer but does not permit quitting the game. First, he chose Lord Shiva, which was incorrect, then Lord Vayu, which was also wrong, thus losing his chance at the ₹25 lakh prize.

The Correct Answer

The correct answer was Lord Kartikeya. Amitabh Bachchan explained, “Lord Kartikeya, after rigorous penance, appeared in front of Amba in his six-faced avatar and presented her with a garland. He said whoever wears it will be able to kill Bhishma. Since nobody was ready to do it, she threw it on a pole. Later, when Amba was reborn as Shikhandi, she wore the garland and helped in the killing of Bhishma.”

By giving the wrong answer, Utkarsh lost the ₹12.5 lakh he could have secured if he had opted to quit the game at that point. Instead, he walked away with ₹3.20 lakh.

The latest season of KBC began airing on Sony Entertainment Television on August 12. It will be broadcast on weekdays, Monday to Friday, at 9 PM.
