Shah Rukh Khan has confirmed that his upcoming film will be the crime drama King, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, where he will play an “age-centric” role. He mentioned that he will need to lose some weight for the part. Khan explained that he often takes a long time to finish a movie because he likes to get to know the director first.
Recently, Khan was honored with a lifetime achievement award, the Pardo alla Carriera or Career Leopard, at the 77th Locarno Film Festival. In a conversation with Giona A Nazzaro, the artistic director of the festival, he discussed his career and upcoming projects, including his preparation for King and collaboration with Ghosh.
About King
Khan shared, “There are certain kinds of films that I want to do, perhaps more age-centric, and I want to try something new. I’ve been thinking about it for 6-7 years and mentioned it to Sujoy one day while we were chatting. He works with us at our office and has made some films for us. He said, ‘Sir, I have a subject.'”
He also spoke about getting in shape for King: “For my next film, King, I have to start working on it, lose some weight, and do some stretching,” Khan added. He explained that his prolonged preparation for a film is due to his preference to spend time with the director, as they will be collaborating for over a year.
More About King
The film is reportedly set to feature Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter, Suhana Khan, marking her theatrical debut following her acting debut in Zoya Akhtar’s coming-of-age period drama The Archies, which premiered on Netflix India last year.
Abhishek Bachchan is also reportedly starring as the chief antagonist in King. Shah Rukh, Abhishek, and Sujoy Ghosh previously collaborated on the 2021 thriller Bob Biswas, where Abhishek played the titular role. This film was a spin-off of the character played by Saswata Chatterjee in Ghosh’s 2012 hit Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan. Bob Biswas was co-produced by Sujoy and Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment and marked the directorial debut of Sujoy’s daughter, Divya. Ghosh has also directed the thriller Badla (2019) for Red Chillies, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu.
Additionally, King reportedly stars Abhay Verma, who recently gained attention for his role in the blockbuster horror-comedy Munjya.
